Our Story

The beginning

Our story begins on a hot summer night back in 2019, Max van der Schoor and David Veen were doing what they do best: consuming a copious amount of beer at the local bar while discussing their love for music. Those conversations always came back to one thing: their shared love for the Seattle grunge from the Nineties. With that in mind, the idea to form a band arose. With both Max and David having played with Martijn Schuur before and being blown away by his talent, bringing him in on lead guitar was a no brainer for them. They decided to give David’s previous bandmate Rick Kluin a call for the duty’s on bass. With Rick being known for his heavy and sometimes almost filthy bass sound, they knew this was the only suitable man for the job. With only one spot to be filled, Max, David, Martijn and Rick started looking for a drummer. They invited Irina van Dijk to jam, which immediately felt right. Irina, being able to make the most hardest rocking song swing while hitting like Taylor Hawkins, was asked to fill the seat behind the kit. The now five-piece started jamming and writing songs. And so, long before being named Angry Chair, Angry Chair was born.

Angry Chair is born

Skip forward to the end of 2022. The covid pandemic had delayed the band’s progress for the past years. But when the years without prospect of liveshows were over, the engine really got started. With the band’s first gig in their hometown Stadskanaal on the horizon, they decided to name themselves after one of their favourite songs of one of their favourite bands Alice in Chains: “Angry Chair”. On the 4th of March 2023, Angry Chair made it’s live debut. Several shows followed, all leaving a blistering impression on the audiences. In the fall and winter of 2023 Angry Chair went into the studio to record it’s debut album. With the help of André van der Werf and Wietze Koning, ten songs were recorded at the Parkstad studio in Veendam.

“Hole”

The album Hole is set to be released on October 25. Including the previously released singles “Can’t Breathe“, “Another Life” and title track to the album “Hole“. All songs were well received, getting thousands of streams within weeks and getting high spots in the Dutch indie charts. “Hole” even took the number 1 position for a while. With all three songs being well received, they are a promising preview of what the album will bring. By blending the influence of the Seattle grunge scene with a more modern alternative rock vibe, the album captures a sense of the insane and touches upon various societal topics. With their heavy riffs, thick drums, and catchy melodies, they create a sound to bang your head to. Songs like “Wicked Reality” and “Pandora” are heavy, layered, and will take you on a journey as you listen along, while songs like “Hole”, “Can’t Breathe”, and “Common Sense” will have you screaming along with the chorus.
